America’s Cup to be held in Bermuda

The J Class Association has accepted an invitation to take pride of place during the 2017 America’s Cup, including in a dedicated four-day J Class regatta. The titans of the 1930s will therefore return to the heart of this prestigious racing event after an 80-year absence.

19 augustus, 2015 -

“When racing for the America’s Cup in the 1930s, the J Class boats embodied grace and power with cutting-edge design and engineering,” said Russell Coutts, director of the America’s Cup Event Authority (ACEA). He added that their return would result in “a spectacular blend between the old and new.”  The America’s Cup had – incredibly – never before been held in Bermuda, but this is set to be remedied with the 2017 edition.

All eight J Class yachts will be expected there, and a minimum of six will compete in the J Class regatta. This will be the first time in history that more than five J Class yachts will race against each other. Our very own Lionheart will definitely be there; watch this space for further updates as the date approaches.
